British Columbia, in cooperation with Washington State, have organized a recovery plan to help increase the
population of Orca whales in their nearby oceans. The points on the plan include:
• Efforts to restore the salmon population
• Cleaning up contaminated areas to minimize the Orca Whale's exposure to harmful chemicals
• Establishing and improving guidelines for vessels to minimize vessel and Orca whale collisions
• Oil prevention plans
• Studies to conduct health assessments on Orca whales to determine causes of death so they can be prevented
• Orca whale monitoring
• Research facilities to monitor trends in population and behavior and to track individual Orca whales
• Increased public awareness of Orca whales to encourage donations and support from the public
You now know the importance of the Orca whales and their emblematic value to Canada, it's time to
play your part in preserving their population. You can begin right away by visiting our SUPPORT page to
